Microsoft is to re-brand Bing apps as MSN apps, as well as release them for Android and iOS devices. Currently available only on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, the apps will include News, Weather, Travel, Finance, Sports, Health & Fitness, and Food & Drink.
This move to support other mobile platforms follows the launch of the new MSN homepage. Combining Microsoft services with news and entertainment, the new site can be previewed at preview.msn.com. As well as content, you can access Outlook, Office online, and Twitter and Facebook from the new site.
The MSN apps will come to iOS and Android in the coming months. While Microsoft has been concentrating on making the Windows ecosystem coherent across its mobile and desktop operating systems, bringing the apps to other platforms makes sense, especially while Windows Phone trails iOS and Android despite the continuing popularity of Microsoft products and services.
